Overview
My dissertation study examines how AI is conceptualized and learned within gendered professional spaces designed for women, focusing on the communicative practices of members and organizers of Women in AI Colorado. The goal is to inform design implications for AI literacy programs and community initiatives supporting women’s participation in AI.
Situated at the intersection of digital communication, gender, and AI, this project brings humanistic approaches to discourse and communication into conversation with emerging AI practices in order to better understand how sociotechnical futures are imagined and negotiated.
By treating AI as both a technical system and a discursive object, the study investigates how talk about AI and practices of engaging with AI are organized in this community — and what those patterns reveal about who gets to participate in shaping the technology.
